Cathy had dreamed of the “end of the world” since high school. Years later, she and her partner chose a 12-day Antarctic expedition for a honeymoon that felt genuinely different.

Vows at the edge of the world
Cathy and her partner marked their marriage in Antarctica, surrounded by ice, snow and penguins. Other travelers gathered nearby to celebrate and offer their congratulations, turning a private promise into a memory they will carry for life.
The first landing became the defining memory
A weather-driven route took the voyage toward the Weddell Sea. On the first day, they stepped onto sea ice among Adélie penguins and later saw adult emperor penguins—an encounter Cathy remembers as both raw and incredibly lucky.
Landing and Zodiac cruising reveal different worlds
On land, she could feel the snow underfoot and watch penguin colonies from close range. From the Zodiac, the scale and texture of naturally sculpted ice became the experience itself, with wildlife sometimes appearing in the water.
The itinerary changed—and that was part of the expedition
The original ambition included the Antarctic Circle, but weather and landing conditions led the expedition team toward the Weddell Sea instead. The change brought unexpected wildlife and more time ashore, a reminder that polar itineraries are plans rather than promises.
